Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System or WHMIS is a detailed plan for the safe use of hazardous materials used at work. You can identify hazardous materials by product labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS) and worker education programs.

  • labelling
  • material safety data sheets (MSDS), and
  • worker training and education.

Why was WHMIS created?

WHMIS was created to help prevent injuries, illness, death, medical expenses, and fires caused by hazardous materials.
